This phonograph was made by Waters-Conley Co. of Rochester, Minn. and is a model "Phonola Dynacoustic" portable phonograph. What is unusual to me is the tonearm. All wind-ups that I have ever seen, including other Phonolas, have a round sound reproducer head.
This one has an arm that looks just like an electronic pickup arm of the 1940's. However it is totally acoustic with a tube running the length of the arm, sending the sound to the internal soundbox. Was this an attempt to make the phono look more modern? I would guess that it was not too popular as I have never seen another acoustic phono with an arm like this. If you could get me some Info. I would appreciate it.

Maybe you can help me - I recently found the entire Wallace set of 78's boxed in the original mailing box from Chicago, including postage meter stamp. My question is this: Is there a collectible value to this set? As near as I can tell it is pristine and never used. The sleeves are in perfect condition, and Wallace's original letters of encouragement are still enclosed and in good condition.

Howdy -- I was introduced to MAPS by Tim Gray, whom I met at an antique show & flea mkt near here. While I have 7 machines, including a Queen Ann & an Edison & a cylinder player, I'm mostly interested in contacting folks who also collect vintage 78 rpm recordings. I'm 71, a retired social scientist, & have been collecting for over 60 years. This is not intended to impress but merely as a means to indicate how valuable I might be as a resource for some folks -- John Tefteller figures I must have somewhere around several thousand blues 78's, and many, many 1,000's more of all types. My LP's probably number around 40,000, and I have too many boxes of 45's to count them. My cylinders are focused on the course I teach at our area community college called " Learnin' The Blues." To the best of my knowledge, I have a copy of the first "blues" cylinder (which of course isn't really blues). I'm the archivist for the Board of the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society- 14 years now. I'm in Greensboro, NC

Hello
I own a 1912 spider-leg Victrola. It was professionally refinished in 1986 and looks very nice. The mechanism is 1970 Garrard that was cut to fit the space (that probably is a horror to you collectors, but we just wanted to hear the sound!). I intend to try and auction it on eBay this week and was hoping to make some local (S.E. Michigan) buffs aware. Do you have an opinion as to the minimum value of such a thing? Thanks!

I just bought this for myself. It's a "Sylvan" tabletop "portable" Phonograph which I can't seem to find anywhere. Can you offer some more clues/insight/era as to when this was made and why it's so scarce?

[Ed. note: Shirley has a long list of records that she will sell. Interested MAPS members need to contact her directly for her list of records.]
I listed 163 plus or minus at almost random not including the classical albums at all. I don't think I listed the music from musicals albums either.
I have other records by many of the same artists and bands and did not list all the artists especially those I never heard of.
If you are interested at a later date I can send some more, different records. Also if you find someone else interested in helping me I would most appreciate his/her e-mail address.

We have a silvertone victrola given to us by my Aunt, who stored it in her garage for sometime. It is four feet tall, is on casters, has a domed lid. The victrola is in good condition, although the veneer on the doors is lifted up a little after having it in the house, it also some minor nicks on the legs. It has a beautifully carved grill and the grill cloth is the original and in good condition. There is a number on the back E15677. Where can I find information about this manufacture? We live in lower Michigan and would also appreciate a recommendation of someone who maybe able to fix the veneer on the doors. The victrola is very beautiful and I don't dare try and correct it myself in case I ruin it. Thank you in advance for your information.

We have a floor model console phonograph that has been in our family for many years, however, the only identification I can find on the back is the model identification of PFC I 6016. Can you advise me as to the manufacturer of this phonograph? I can furnish a photograph by e-mail upon request.

I was wondering if there were any sites on the web that might help me to find more information about the particular phonograph i have. It is tall about 4 feet and has four doors on it the bottom two are for storage and the top two are for volume control. It has a label that says World phonograph co. Chicago, but no information on what the style of the phonograph is called. It was given to us by my husbands grandmother and we are really interested in finding out more about it as well as the estimated value for insurance purposes, but have been unsuccessful in finding anything on the web about any phonograph made by World Phonograph Co. of Chicago. Any help would me greatly appreciated.

My eighty-year-old father still has the two dictaphones from his father's office, plus a box of recorded wax cylinders from his dad's business life. It would mean a great deal to my father to be able to hear his dad's voice again. Is there anybody who can repair these machines to make this possible?
I'd be deeply grateful for any advice you could give. We live in Connecticut near New York City.

I was going thru your Web site because I recently purchased a c. 1950-54 Zenith Cobramatic turntable and am trying to find a repair person in Michigan, preferably in the Detroit area. I looked thru your membership list and couldn't find anyone in my area. Do you have any recommendations?
