HISTORY

On March 20, 1993 a small group of collectors informally met at the home of Robin & Joan Rolfs. In August of that same year the Wisconsin Chapter of MAPS became officially chartered. Our purpose continues to be one of sharing, learning and fellowship among those who encourage the collecting, restoring. and preservation of phonographs, records and related memorabilia. Today our membership is 60 cheeseheads strong and growing.

INFORMATION FOR NEW MEMBERS

Our Wisconsin organization is a group of dedicated collectors who regularly meet four times per year for the purpose of extending our knowledge, learning from others by sharing collections and generally have a good time. These get-togethers include meeting at a collector's home; attending a local music or jazz festival; an informative dinner meeting; meeting for a holiday party; or special museum event. Occasionally our meetings are highlighted by an auction or an informative presentation by a member. The quarterly newsletter, The Badger Talking Machine updates members on activities, includes informative articles and helps promote regional events. Our family dues are $14.00 for a two-year membership. Our membership has grown from a few families in the Appleton / Green Bay area of northeast Wisconsin to members all over the state and nation.

WISCONSIN MAPS REPORTS

Wisconsin Chapter of MAPS August Meeting Report

It was a picture perfect weekend in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and Conro's Resort provided the perfect venue for this three day get-away. Bob Stutz's family has owned Conro's Resort since 1911. The Arts and Craft architecture of the main lodge is awesome.

Saturday brought out more sunshine and a breathtaking pontoon ride on Moen Lake. A bald eagle flyby only added to the spectacular morning. The children enjoyed the paddle boats and building a fort in the wood pile.

At our meeting, Vice president, Scott Malawski opened with a hardy Thank You to Bob Stutz for hosting the meeting and we welcomed new member, Charles Schaffer from Norway, MI as an official Cheesehead. We discussed Phonovention and viewed the DVD graciously compiled and shared by Tim McCormick of HAPS.

A late night record spin featured jazz, blues, and a Les Paul tribute. Bob Stutz has an outstanding collection of Nat King Cole recordings and memorabilia and we enjoyed some rare records recorded by Mr. Nat King Cole.

It was a meeting to remember and as always, food was in abundance.
